Miros delivers world-class class remote sensors for measuring the ocean surface. Our portfolio of sensors is unique in its accuracy and availability providing out-of-water sea state measurements, free from structural disturbances. Miros Group has a 30-year track record of successfully providing ocean insights to the global maritime industry, on and off-shore.

Wave & Current Radar

The Miros SM-050 Wave and Current radar is a high-performance remote, dry sensor for measurement of directional wave spectra and surface current. It is based on proven technology which has been successfully providing ocean insights to the maritime market for over 30 years. The wave and current radar is being continuously developed to meet the latest modern requirements and is now available as an IoT sensor. That means that it is truly plug-and-play only needing power and an internet connection to give secure access to immediate, real-time data about the ocean state.

How does it work?

The wave and current radar observes the ocean surface in a semi-circle at a distance of 180-450 meters, depending on the installation height which is typically 25-80 meters. The selected frequency of operations ensures a very high degree of penetration through precipitation and sea spray and provides accurate measurements in harsh weather situations of any kind.

What makes the Miros wave and current radar (SM-050) unique?

It is the only sensor in the world which utilizes a dual footprint pulse Doppler method for wave measurements as well as a microwave dual frequency method for measuring surface current. It has been verified for accuracy and high reliability in a number of independent comparisons. The Miros wave and current radar provides the same data quality as a high-performance buoy but the dry SM-050 has a higher availability.

What are the benefits of the Miros Wave and current radar?

  • Easy access to data, anytime, anywhere
  • It is a dry sensor which does not require the maintenance and related costs of a buoy
  • Easy installation, all you need is power and internet to get started
  • High data reliability and availability
